Helloooo beautiful people! What a stunning (but cold, very cold) day it is here in Christchurch. Today we want to talk about the five things you can do right now for your mental wellbeing, so you, can enjoy a stress free silly season. Let’s dive right into it!
Christmas is a time to give but most of us end up giving ourselves stress more than anything else and this pays a huge role for our mental wellbeing. The holiday season is a time to enjoy with your family, a time to enjoy delicious meals and the company of your loved ones.
To get you started, we’ve put together a list of things you can do today to feel great and enjoy your holidays.
Number one: YOU!
Valuing your work and accepting that you’ve done your best is the best thing you can do to keep those pesky pre-Christmas stresses from kicking in. Imagine a scenario, you’ve been cooking, working, wrapping gifts whatever it is and at the end, you’ve forgotten something, that one last thing, now it’s going to keep you up for the rest of the night. What happens now? Take a break and remember what you’ve achieved already throughout the day, the week or even over the month. Forgetting, missing or panicking over one thing is not going to fix it, it will probably make it worse. So remember what you’ve achieved already and keep going!
Number two: stay physical
Feeling the pressure kick in a little bit? Take some time out and go for a walk, a run or even a bike. A very quick 20-minute walk is enough to re-energise and pull focus to the tasks you need to do. Plus, it’s great to get out of the building sometimes.
Number three: Eating well and regularly
Amongst the rush, we often forget to eat let alone remembering to eat healthy. Eating well gives you energy to carry on with the task ahead, it brings momentum to your day and it’s a fun little reward to look forward to (unless its kale, no-one looks forward to Kale). Try and avoid sugary snacks because it will make you jittery and then you’ll crash. The worst thing when you have a million and one things to do right? So remember to eat regularly and maintain a balanced diet.
Number four: Stay hydrated
Summer can be harsh and humid, so remember to take your water bottles with you. Staying hydrated is a major part of retaining your energy, it helps your body function properly and it keeps you cool during the hot weather.
Number five: Setting realistic goals
With a million things to do, it can be hard to remember everything let alone get everything done. So create a to-do list and stick to it. Along with the to do list, create some SMART goals for the week to keep yourself in check. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Help is your friend!
